A Closer Look at The Capitol Residences by Madison Group and Westdale Properties | UrbanToronto
Madison Group and Westdale Properties have been releasing new renderings month-by-month for The Capitol Residences, their upcoming condominium development at Yonge and Castlefield streets in Midtown Toronto.
The final renderings of the 14-storey, Turner Fleischer Architects and Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed building have now been shared, ahead of the sales centre’s grand opening. Upon completion, the famed Capitol Theatre will be transformed into a stunning 14-storey residence, while preserving the original marquee and façade along the three floors at the base of the podium.
“This mid-rise project will capture the nostalgic vibrancy of years past while adding a modern twist on the original style,” said Josh Zagdanski, Vice President of High Rise at Madison Group. “Just as the Capitol Theatre once brought joy and entertainment to the city, The Capitol Residences will bring new liveliness to the neighbourhood.”

We have previously had looks at The Capitol Residences’ interiors through a rendering of the porte-cochère, a lavish golf simulator room, an enticing amenity terrace, and the building’s social club, where a double-sided fireplace will serve as a centrepiece for the room. The most recent renderings also feature a curated kids play space offering toys and games replete with pastel finishes and plush furnishings.
“The amenities really reflect not only the grandness of life inspired by the theatre, but also the demographic of the area, which includes many families with children,” said Zagdanski. “Having kids myself, that is where the idea for the kids play room came from, and it is super playful and fun.”
The latest rendering shows off city views from the residences of The Capitol while featuring 10 ft ceilings, and emphasizing there will be more than enough space to dance, whether in a suite, penthouse, or park-facing townhome.

The most recent release from the Madison Group also shares a glimpse at the interior finishes, which include natural stone countertops, and matching backsplashes chosen by designers at Studio Munge. The finishes will be accompanied by Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and brass fixtures.

Other amenities at The Capitol include a gym with private workout areas, a pet spa, a residential guest suite, a lobby with a 24/7 concierge service and automated parcel storage, and an extensive outdoor lounge and dining area accompanied by an intimate greenhouse and private seating area to be known as The Capitol Gardens.

The Capitol Residences will bring 145 one, two, and three-bedroom new homes to a stretch of Yonge Street that has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, home to a shopping and dining scene that is seeing a quick resurgence as conditions return to normal. The units are available ranging from 425 to 1,950 ft² in area, with prices starting in the $900,000s. Underground parking will also be handy, with one space available per unit.
In addition to the preservation and incorporation of heritage walls, the project is set to benefit the surrounding community with additional green space; an existing parking lot on the site’s west side will be converted into a new 3,700 m² park for residents to share with the surrounding community.
“It’s a really unique boutique project for midtown Toronto,” said Zagdanski, “It’s almost the antithesis of any other project in midtown, and we’re very excited about it.”
