Glazing Installation Continues to Make Progress at 19 Duncan | UrbanToronto
Glazing is moving right along at Westbank Corp and Allied Properties REIT’s project at 19 Duncan Street, with major panels of glass being affixed to the building’s lower levels. The Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed tower is rising on the southeast corner of Duncan and Adelaide streets in Toronto’s Entertainment District, bringing a mix of office, restaurant, residential rental, and hotel suites to the neighbourhood.
Our last update in September shared that the tenth floor was in the process of being formed. Now, construction has progressed to the eleventh, which is the first level of the 58-storey tower now beginning to rise above the podium.

Glazing has continued to be installed on the lower levels of the building—other than on the preserved heritage walls—with curtain wall being affixed to nearly the entire exterior of the new base, covering areas that will become windows and disguising areas that are concrete wall. Last month just one side of the first storey had been clad, but now two storeys of multiple sides of the building are showing off new glazing. White fins are installed between each window, acting as brise soleils, and cutting down on heat transference which conserves energy and improves the thermal performance of the building.

On the corners of the building, large, curved pieces of glass are being used to offer a smooth and rounded finish rather than the typical sharp-edge look. In addition to being reflective on its exterior, the glass has a graphite-coloured tint to it, in another method of conserving energy.

The podium floors will be the new Toronto home of news media giant Thomson Reuters. The tower levels that rise above it will consist of purpose-built rental units, with the exception of levels 52 through 55 which are reserved for a collection of 40 hotel suites. Upon completion, some retail and restaurant spaces are expected to make an appearance on the ground level.
