St. Lawrence Condos Approaching Final Form as Cladding Continues | UrbanToronto
Almost a decade after a former Greyhound Bus facility was demolished at the northwest corner of Front and Sherbourne streets in Downtown Toronto, a pair of 26-storey condominium towers are fast rising on the site. Used as a surface parking lot in the interim, Cityzen Development Group and Fernbrook Homes’ St Lawrence Condos at 158 Front began construction in early 2018, and three years later, the architects—Alliance-designed development is moving closer to its final form.

We’ve been tracking the project through every step of construction, most recently checking in back in November, when forming of the towers had progressed as far as their 19th levels, revealing the first of the cantilevered sections. Five months later, the 26th and final residential floors are now taking shape in a four-storey cantilevered section, with just the mechanical penthouse levels to be shaped above now.

Recent photos show that cladding installation has also made substantial progress in the months since our last update, when the podium was being finished in a combination of ironspot brick framing window wall cladding with dark-tinted glazing, aluminum mullions and louvres. The cladding has since been joined by columns of inset balconies with glazed railings. Above the podium, a clean-looking window wall finish is fast enclosing the tower levels, now being applied to the 15th floor. The glazing panels consist of full-height panes of clear glazing, alternating with operable windows. Louvres are framed in slender vertical mullions.

Targeted to welcome its first residents later this year, St. Lawrence Condos will bring 490 new homes to the neighbourhood upon completion. The buildings will be anchored to Front Street with a retail frontage that will extend the St Lawrence area’s pedestrian strolling zone further east.
