Throwback Thursday: Fort York Public Library | UrbanToronto
This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us back over nine years to early 2012, when a new mixed-use development with both a condo tower and Toronto’s 99th public library branch was under construction on the northeast corner of Bathurst Street and Fort York Boulevard. In March of that year, a view facing southeast from the Bathurst Street bridge showed below-grade forming for the condo-library complex. The project from Context Development consisted of a 29-storey condo to the east aptly named Library District Condominiums, and a two-storey Toronto Public Library branch to the west.

Catching up to today in April, 2021, the current view from this same vantage point covers much change in addition to the 2014-opened Fort York Public Library. In the foreground, the completed KPMB Architects-designed library and condo tower has been joined by several other new developments in the background. Behind and to the right of the completed Library District tower, new additions include several buildings developed by Concord Adex for their CityPlace community: Spectra, Forward, Newton, The LakeShore, and The LakeFront, from left to right.

We will return next week with another look at the changing face of the Greater Toronto Area. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week’s edition.
